Parallel at Illinois

UPCRC Illinois Summer School on Multicore Programming

June 22-26, 2009
Siebel Center for Computer Science
University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign

The 2009 UPCRC Illinois Summer School offers experienced programmers, with little or no exposure to parallelism, an opportunity to learn about multicore programming.

Program

Our program will provide a solid foundation in the fundamentals of multicore programming, offer hands-on experience with the use of multicore languages and libraries, and introduce emerging research topics. Upon completion, participants will be familiar with available tools, languages, and libraries that can be used to develop parallel programs, the pros and cons of those utilities, and will be able to choose the programming environment that best matches their application needs.

Prerequisites

Attend on-site or online

Applicants can choose to attend on campus at the Thomas M. Siebel Center for Computer Science or online as a virtual student. Please note: Visa invitation letters will not be provided for international applicants.

Applicant Type / Registration Fee On-site at Illinois Online/Virtual Attendee
Student $80 $45
Academic Faculty/Staff $160 $100
Industry Professional $250 $150

Registration fees are non-refundable and non-transferable.

Online participants will have two live connectivity options: Windows Live Streaming and GoToMeeting (click here to test). We recommend online participants attend in real-time. However, video content will also be archived in the My Summer School Account for those who are unable to attend online during US Central time zone schedules. Online international applicants should ensure reliable internet connectivity and bandwith before applying.

All participants will have access to a 24-hour live chat feature for asking questions, sharing ideas, developing thoughts, etc.

Travel, Lodging, and Meals

Participants are responsible for their own travel and lodging expenses. A nearby hotel and a dorm facility located in the heart of campus are holding rooms until May 21, 2009. You will need to make your own reservations. Lunch is provided as part of your registration fee.

Apply Online

Applications will be accepted online beginning April 15. Applicants will be notified within 3-5 days after submitting applications. Capacity for on-site and online participants is limited. Admitted participants must confirm their registration with payment within 7 days after notification to guarantee their place in the summer school. Applications will be accepted until May 15 or until capacities are full, whichever comes first.
