The 2011 UPCRC Illinois Summer School offers experienced programmers, with little or no exposure to parallelism, an opportunity to learn about multicore programming.
Program
Our program will provide a solid foundation in the fundamentals of multicore programming, offer hands-on experience with the use of multicore languages and libraries, and introduce emerging research topics. Upon completion, participants will be familiar with available tools, languages, and libraries that can be used to develop parallel programs, the pros and cons of those utilities, and will be able to choose the programming environment that best matches their multicore application needs. Our curriculum is designed for those who are interested in employing multicore programming for client software applications and does not emphasize scientific computation.

Please Note: This program is a one-week, intensive workshop and does not provide credit toward a degree program.
Prerequisites
- a solid understanding of and experience with programming
(preferably with C, C++, C#, and/or Java languages) - a demonstrated interest using multicore programming for software development and/or applying multicore programming to academic or professional pursuits
Attend On-Site or Online
Participants can choose to attend on campus at the Thomas M. Siebel Center for Computer Science or online as a virtual participant.
On-site participants will have access to the course website, an on-site lab, and teaching assistants who can help with hands-on learning projects. On-site capacity is limited to the first 60 participants who register. Payment is required at the time of registration.
Online participants will watch lectures via live streaming or archives during the week of summer school. Online participants will not receive teaching, lab, or technical support. Depending on available resources, there may be an option to access content on a course website, including an option to download a virtual machine image for lab projects. Online attendance is free, but is limited to 200 participants. Registration is required.

Registration fees are non-refundable and non-transferable. Visa invitation letters will not be provided for international applicants.
Travel, Lodging, and Meals
On-site participants are responsible for their own travel and lodging expenses. Visa invitation letters will not be provided for international applicants. On-site registration fee includes most meals from dinner on Monday to lunch on Friday.
